The William A. Sievert Scholarship

In early 2017, the Steering Committee of The Triangle Connection agreed to explore the possibility of establishing a scholarship for area high school students pursuing further education.

We are pleased to announce that one or two such scholarships in the amount of $500.00 will be available each year. After the untimely passing of one of our founders, Bill Sievert, in 2018 we decided to name the scholarships after him. The William A. Sievert Memorial Scholarships are administered by the Triangle Connection through the auspices of The Mount Dora Community Trust.

The successful applicant will be a graduating senior with a 2.5 or higher grade point average who has been a member of his or her high school's Gay/Straight Alliance.  The funds will be paid directly to the institution (university, college, or trade school) to defray the cost of the student's tuition, fees, or books.

A delegation from the Steering Committee participates in the selection of the winner or winners.

A letter to our group

from the Executive Director
of Lake Cares:
The reason I'm writing today is to thank The Triangle Connection for supporting our cause.  I know that your membership has been donating canned goods and other items on a monthly basis for several years now, and you deserve to be recognized for that.
Please pass on my appreciation to all the fine people in your organization.  Let them know that the recipients of their generosity are really thankful for what your members are doing.
Lake Cares is fortunate to be staffed by more than 175 dedicated volunteers.  And, because of actions taken by groups such as yours, we were able to provide much needed food in 2017 to 36,201 children and adults in 10,695 families*.  With your continued support, there's no doubt we will exceed those numbers this year.
I urge you to keep up the spirit of giving.  Needy people in Lake County depend on the goodness of kind-hearted individuals such as the folks in The Triangle Connection.  You are making a difference.
Once again, thank you very much for what you've accomplished thus far and for all your future efforts.
Irene O'Malley
Executive Director
