Scholarship

The William A. Sievert Scholarship - 100% of the donations collected for the scholarship fund go to the students.  100%!  We make this happen with the Triangle Connection organization paying all administrative fees.  For example, when you buy raffle tickets at Meet & Greets (and any other donations to TC), that money is part of  TC operating budget and about 20% of the funds annually are used to pay the administrative costs to manage the William A. Sievert Scholarship enabling all donations to scholarship to go directly to the well deserving students. $1,305.00 received Year-to-Date in 2020 for the Scholarship FundTHANK YOU!
 Scholarship Winners:
2020 William A. Sievert Scholarship Winner:  Katherine Kozlowski
Katherine will receive a $3,000 scholarship as she heads off to attend college in Tampa at the University of South Florida in the fall.  She aspires to major in Environmental Policy and is very passionate about helping the environment.  To quote Katherine, “My ultimate goal is to become a Chief Officer of Sustainability, a relatively new career that involves making a corporation as environmentally friendly as possible without taking too much away from its profit.  I hope to work in a private sector for a company like Exxon Mobil, which is the #1 company that emits the most CO2 into the air.  I don't think capitalism is going away anytime soon, so I've decided to work with the system and try to reduce carbon emissions that way.”  Katherine was also the founder of the Gender and Sexualities club at her school and volunteers at the Faith Neighborhood Center.  Her goal is to make a difference, and we are happy to support her in her future endeavors. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the William A. Sievert Memorial Scholarship.  Your contributions are building the future of our country. The William A. Sievert Memorial Scholarship was established in 2017 to honor the late William "Bill" A. Sievert.  Bill was among the pioneers who helped establish and lead Triangle Connection.  The scholarship is administered by the Triangle Connection through the auspices of The Mount Dora Community Trust.  Katherine is the fifth recipient to be awarded a scholarship.Triangle wants to thank the 2020 selection committee:  Sunny Beseler and Roy Seven.  Discovering Katherine during the pandemic, reviewing her application, interviewing, and making a final decision are the responsibilities of the committee. With schools closed due to the pandemic, Sunny and Roy did not let roadblocks prevent them from discovering Katherine and selecting her as our 2020 recipient.  Congratulations again to Katherine.

In 2017, the Steering Committee of The Triangle Connection established a scholarship fund for area high school students pursuing further education. One to two such scholarships in the various amounts are available each year.

In 2018, after the untimely passing of one of our founders, Bill Sievert, we decided to name the scholarship fund after him. The William A. Sievert Memorial Scholarships are administered by the Triangle Connection through the auspices of The Mount Dora Community Trust.

A successful applicant will be a graduating senior with a 2.5 or higher grade point average who has been a member of his or her high school's Gay/Straight Alliance.  The funds will be paid directly to the institution (university, college, or trade school) to defray the cost of the student's tuition, fees, or books.

A delegation from the Steering Committee participates in the selection of the winner or winners.

Students interested in applying for The 2019 William A. Sievert Scholarship should contact their Guidance Counselor for the application form.
